Overthinking in practice

Hi everyone,

Practice is supposed to be where we build our game, but lately, it's where I lose it. Instead of playing freely, I'm stuck in my own head. I'm analyzing my racket drop, criticizing my footwork, and over-correcting every shot until my natural rhythm completely disappears.

It feels like my brain is sabotaging my body's ability to just play.

  • Has this mental block ever disrupted your practice?
  • What specific techniques or mindset shifts help you shut off the analytical chatter?
  • Are there certain drills or practice structures that promote "flow" over overthinking?
  • How do you balance working on technique with just playing intuitively?

Looking for your best strategies to get out of your own head and back into the game Smile

I schedule my practice time. The first 20 minutes are for deliberate technical work with a specific intent. The next 30 minutes are deliberate play points or drills where my only goal is to use what I practiced, not think about it. This structure gives the analytical mind a job, then tells it to take a break.
