Hi friends!
Here’s a group drill designed to help you break out of the forehand diagonal by identifying a neutral ball that can be attacked cross-court.
The goal is to recognize a neutral ball after a steady cross-court exchange and then trigger an attacking cross-court forehand down the line with clear offensive intent.
Drill execution:
- Players A, B, C and D line up at the back of the court. The coach stands cross-court on the opposite baseline, ready to feed balls with the racquet.
- Player A enters the court. The coach feeds a first cross-court ball, which A plays in rhythm with a cross-court forehand.
- Immediately after, the coach feeds a second, more neutral ball. A must read it quickly and trigger a cross-court attacking forehand, hitting down the line.
- After both shots are completed, A exits the court and joins the end of the line. Player B enters directly and continues the sequence.

This cross-court attack surprises the opponent by changing direction and forces you to step into the court. It’s essential against players who control the diagonal well.
