Hi friends!

This solo drill will help you improve a shot that’s often tricky: the topspin forehand on a low ball. Ideal on fast courts or against sliced shots, it teaches you to lift the ball cleanly while staying relaxed and in control.

The goal of this exercise is to consistently apply topspin on a low ball without making errors, maintaining good wrist relaxation and an upward trajectory.

Drill execution:

  • Set the ball machine to feed alternating low, skidding balls with slice, landing first just before the baseline, then just behind the service line.
  • Stand behind the baseline to receive the first deep ball, then step slightly forward to play the second, shorter one.
  • On each ball, bend your knees well, keep your balance forward, and swing from low to high to guide the ball through its full rising path.
  • Maintain a steady rhythm of about 5 seconds between feeds.
  • Perform 5 sets of 10 consecutive topspin forehands, with 30 seconds of rest between sets.

This solo tennis drill helps you improve control on low balls and develop the ability to impose your game even from a defensive position.

Quick tip: On low balls, follow through high and long to ensure clean, consistent topspin!
