Hi friends!
Here’s a group drill to warm up at the start of a session while working on the precision of approach volleys. Simple and effective, it lets you repeat the movement at a dynamic pace with 4 players.
The goal is to strengthen the precision and control of approach volleys by targeting specific zones, while maintaining good consistency near the net.
Drill execution:
The 4 players form two pairs: pair 1 (A and B) and pair 2 (C and D).
Each player stands between the service line and the baseline, facing their partner.
- Mark target zones as 1×2 m rectangles behind each player (see diagram).
- The two pairs start an exchange of approach volleys between themselves.
- Each volley should aim for the target zone behind the partner.
After 2 minutes of rallying, rotate: A moves to C and B moves to D, and vice versa, so that all players can work on every side of the court.
For a good approach volley, keep your knees flexed, weight on the balls of your feet, and the racquet in front of your body with a slightly open face.

These extended volley exchanges prepare you for moving forward to the net in matches, improve ball control under pressure, and develop hand–eye coordination—essential qualities for aggressive players!
