Are five-set matches still the ultimate test in tennis?

Hello everyone,

Five-set matches bring a completely different dimension compared to best-of-three formats. The physical demand increases significantly, but the mental side becomes even more decisive. Managing momentum swings, handling pressure after losing a long set, and recovering physically between sets all play a major role.

In five sets, players must solve problems over a longer period. Tactical adjustments, emotional control, and endurance separate consistent contenders from true champions. It often becomes less about explosive performance and more about resilience and adaptability.

While best-of-three matches offer intensity and speed, five-set battles create deeper narratives and dramatic comebacks that are rare in shorter formats.

Do you think five sets should remain the standard for Grand Slams, or is best-of-three enough at the highest level?

Hello, for me, five sets reveal real endurance. It’s the ultimate physical and mental examination.
