Hi!
Here’s a solo tennis drill inspired by the match between Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev. It will help you work on your transition game and variation of shot trajectories.
How to run the drill:
Place the ball machine in front of you, centered on the baseline, and program a sequence of five balls with a 3-second interval to simulate the pace of a real high-level rally:
- First ball: a powerful ball simulating a serve to the backhand side. Return it with a short forehand to the middle, focusing on clean contact.
- Second ball: ball to the backhand side. Hit a solid, driven cross-court backhand.
- Third ball: another ball, still to the backhand side. Adjust your position slightly and send it back with a precise and aggressive down-the-line forehand.
- Fourth ball: again to the backhand. Return it with a deep cross-court backhand, aiming for depth and angle.
- Fifth ball: a slightly higher, shorter ball to the right side of the court. Move forward to the net and finish the point with an offensive, deep cross-court volley.
Do 5 complete sets with 30 seconds of rest between each set.

This solo drill helps you develop your reading of the ball’s trajectory, your anticipation, and your transition from attack to the net in true Federer style.
