363 Group Tennis Drill – Drop Half-Volley with Ball Machine

Hi everyone!

Here’s a group tennis drill to master the half-volley and turn low balls into nasty drop shots – perfect for players who love moving forward to the net!

The goal is to develop your ability to attack in half-volley on low, fast balls while moving forward to the net with controlled aggression.

How to run the drill:

For this drill, the ball machine is set to send low balls after the bounce.

Players A, B, C, D line up facing the ball machine, ready to take turns one by one near the net.

  1. The machine sends a low, fast ball.
  2. Player A moves forward and attacks with an offensive half-volley.
  3. Right after the shot, A goes to the back of the line and B steps in to play the next ball. The rotation is continuous so everyone stays involved.

The hitting zone should be limited to a maximum of 3 m from the net to really work on half-volley control.

A bit of a challenge: you can add a regular volley after the half-volley to simulate a full approach to the net.

This drill helps you attack on difficult balls, improves your touch, and prepares you for doubles situations where rallies are fast and tight.
