What equipment should I choose for my children?

"Cap! Glasses!!!" This is what I always tell my children when they go to a match in the summer... Choosing the right equipment is important, in fact the equipment plays a role in the game, the sensations but also the well-being and the health of our young champion.

So which material to choose? What is, what do we put in our bag? My little guide:

(I am not here to sell you a brand or type of equipment, but rather to give you a little feedback and give you some tips.)

  1. First reflex: ask your child's coach what he thinks, he is best placed to give you good advice on choosing a racket.
  2. Generally, for young people we will use a multi-filament rope which is more flexible and less traumatic on the joints.
  3. As a general rule, children's snowshoes are rather light.
  4. A towel: dual-use item:
    • to wipe off if you sweat
    • We also use it regularly to isolate ourselves in order to concentrate.
  5. A cap... Super important for the sun.
  6. A pair of sunglasses: not always easy to play with, but still in the south of France in summer it's essential.
  7. A replacement racket, identical to the first, with the same string and the same tension... If your child breaks his string, he will then be able to move on to the second racket without being hindered...
  8. 3 or 4 anti vibrators... It can always be useful if we lose one or to lend to friends too.
  9. Some spare overgrips: if the racket starts to turn on its own when you hit, it's often because the grip is worn, so it's good to change it (it's also good to teach your child to change it himself)
  10. A banana or an energy food: personally, I recommend to my children to eat a small piece of banana at each break during the match (and to drink a drink too)

NB: I often see 10 year olds with huge bags on their backs, it's funny they look like snails but I wonder what they put in them... (a whole wardrobe could fit in there lol)... It remains personal but regarding Elouan he just has a backpack with his two rackets, a water bottle, his towel...etc, and it does it well.... then there is also the "Cool and trendy aspect of big bags..."
