New gears for a big match: Smart strategy or unnecessary risk?

Hi everyone,

We have all felt this temptation before a big match. A new racquet, fresh strings, or new shoes promise extra confidence. At the same time, unfamiliar gear can quickly turn into a distraction.

Some players swear by fresh equipment to feel sharp and prepared. Others prefer sticking with what they know and trust under pressure.

Where do you draw the line personally? Do you test new gear in practice only, or trust it straight away?

Never change gear on match day. That is my absolute rule. Your focus should be on strategy and execution, not on adjusting to unfamiliar equipment. Even a new but identical racket can feel subtly different. Consistency is key under pressure.
