391 – Group Serve Drill: Throw the Ball Using a Full Service Motion

October 1, 2026

This drill is designed to develop accuracy, a fluid service motion, and self-confidence.

The objective is to reproduce the complete service motion without a racket by throwing the ball by hand toward targets on the ground, reinforcing proper body positioning and coordinated rotation.

How to Run the Drill:

  • Place one basket in the deuce service box and a second basket in the ad service box.
  • Players A, B, C, and D line up behind the baseline.
  • Player A sets up as if preparing to serve from the deuce side.
  • Player A performs the complete service motion, from preparation through the ball release, including shoulder and hip rotation and the forward transfer of body weight. At the point where contact would normally occur, A throws the ball with the dominant hand toward the basket in the service box.
  • A completes 10 throws, then moves to the back of the line. Player B steps in immediately, followed by the other players in turn.
  • After each player has completed 10 throws from the deuce side, the players move to the ad side and make 10 more throws toward the second basket, continuing the same line rotation.

Try to land as many balls as possible in the basket.
