379 Solo Tennis Drill – Reflex Volleys on Fast Balls with a Ball Machine

Hi!

Here’s a solo drill that’s as fun as it is effective: the reflex volley. It teaches you to react instantly to fast balls at the net while strengthening your control and stability.

The goal of this exercise is to develop reaction speed and wrist stability on reflex volleys, so you can handle fast, unpredictable exchanges more effectively.

How to run the drill:

  • Place the ball machine at mid-court, facing you, and set it to send fast, direct balls at varying heights (high, medium, low).
  • Stand on the service line, knees bent, holding the racket out in front of you in the ready position.
  • On each feed, block the ball by keeping the racket stable, without a big swing, and direct it back toward the centre of the court.
  • Do sets of 10 reflex volleys, then rest for 30 seconds before starting again.
