12 years old - How many times a week do you train?

January 16, 2025

Hi friends

This is a question that I am often asked:

"How many times you train?" ...

Some make it a taboo subject, personally it does not bother me to say how I train, on the contrary I find that it is very good to share, it can allow us to have some references to be able to be better.

To know: personally my rhythm of training is flexible depending on whether I feel in good shape or not (whether physically or mentally: working due, making efforts yes but not to the point of disgusting: do not forget to keep the pleasure ).
My training rate is also based on my availability in terms of timetable.

In short here is my classic training week:

  • Monday I have an hour of individual lessons
  • Tuesday I have an hour of individual lessons
  • Wednesday early in the afternoon I have a physiotherapist, I do stretching and muscle strengthening then at the end of the afternoon training with my Sasha game partner (1h to 1h30)
  • Thursday: rest
  • Friday: collective lessons
  • Saturday: often I am in match, otherwise I generally train a pair of an hour with my father.
  • Sunday: often I am in match, otherwise I generally train a pair of hours with my father.

That's it, it's roughly my classic tennis week.

We can add the 3 hours of sport that I do in college, it gives me a week at around 10-12 hours of sport including 9 am specifically for tennis.

This generally corresponds to the recommendation of the FFT in terms of work volume ...

What do I think of this rhythm?

Personally: I would like to work more, I feel capable of it. But my current time jobs don't allow me to do much more.

Also, I try to optimize the hours when I work my tennis. (do little but do well ...)

Some recommendations:

First of all, as said above, we believe that the training volume must be flexible must be adapted according to needs but also of the capacities, mental and physical health of the athlete.

You have to listen:

  • Listening to the body
  • Listening to the mind

There are periods of rest that is necessary, they help to assimilate the work done, they also allow the body to recover and build.

There are more intense training periods than the others depending on whether one is during competition or in period of land work.

Overall general well-being and motivation must be there.

It is (in our opinion) crucial to watch over it, this very conditions the volume and the type of training that we do.
