Grip size in tennis - the small change that can transform comfort, control, and prevent injury

Hello 😀

I corrected my grip size, a tiny equipment adjustment that had a huge effect on my game.

The change was immediate. Less tension in my forearm, a cleaner feel at contact, and much better control without having to squeeze the handle. It made me realize I’d been compensating for years without noticing.

We spend hours talking about racquet models, strings, and tension… but grip size is literally the only part of the racquet your body is in contact with.

  • How much attention do you actually pay to your grip size?
  • How did you find your ideal size? Finger test, ruler measurement, or trial and error?
  • Do you prefer slightly bigger for stability or slightly smaller for wrist action and spin?
  • Did changing grip size help with arm, elbow, or wrist discomfort?
  • Do you customize with overgrips or heat-shrink sleeves?

Curious to hear how others approached this.

The finger test never worked for me. I measured from my palm to ring finger. This gave me the perfect size 3. I add one overgrip for extra cushion. My volleys improved instantly.
