I’m starting this thread to gather information, questions, and real-world feedback about the Lumistar TERO, a new tennis ball machine that heavily emphasizes artificial intelligence, player tracking, and adaptive training.

The idea here is not simply to repeat the marketing claims, but to find out what the machine can actually do on court: consistency, speed, topspin, trajectory quality, usefulness of the AI modes, portability, battery life, app, noise level, reliability, and overall value for money.

What I Want to Test

These are the main questions I’ll try to answer:

Lumistar advertises speeds of up to around 140 km/h / 87 mph. I want to see whether the machine can actually produce fast, playable balls consistently, rather than just one extremely fast ball under ideal conditions.

Yes, absolutely — this thing has some serious power. After several tests, we decided to push the settings a little and ask it to deliver some really extreme balls… and at that point, it was literally firing missiles.

What impresses me most isn’t just the speed. There is power, consistency, accuracy, and a huge amount of intensity. Even when you ask the machine to hit very hard, the balls remain surprisingly convincing.

The advertised top speed of 140 km/h / 87 mph seems entirely believable to me. I haven’t tested it with a radar gun or another sufficiently accurate measuring device yet, so I don’t want to confirm the exact number. But one thing is certain: this machine can really fire the ball. In terms of pure power, this is probably one of the things that has impressed me most so far.

2. How effective are the topspin and slice?

High speed alone isn’t enough. For a competitive club player, the quality of the topspin, slice, and ball trajectory is very important. I’ll be looking at whether the spin is genuinely pronounced or remains relatively light.

This is probably the most important point. A lot of ball machines now talk about AI, but the real question is whether it actually changes the training experience. I want to see whether the machine genuinely reacts to my position, whether the shot sequences make sense, and whether the AI modes are genuinely useful or mostly a marketing feature.

My feedback so far:

Regarding artificial intelligence, so far I have only been able to test the standard version. The first positive point is that even this version already includes a genuine AI module. It is capable of detecting the player’s position on the court and adapting its shots accordingly, which is already quite interesting.

However, this is probably the part that has impressed me the least so far. I found that the quality of the balls delivered in AI mode was decent, but not exceptional. It works and it’s interesting to use, but so far I haven’t found the same ball quality and intensity in this mode that the machine can produce when it is programmed more traditionally.

That said, this observation really needs to be put into perspective: I am only testing the standard version. The Pro version, with its integrated camera system, is specifically designed to go much further in terms of player analysis and the machine’s ability to adapt. This is definitely a feature I’m very interested in exploring because the potential is clearly there. I would be very curious to test the Pro version and see just how far Lumistar has pushed the AI side of the machine.

5. Is the app practical and easy to use?

I’ll be looking at how easy it is to connect to the machine, create drills, modify settings, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi stability, how easy it is to prepare a training session, and the overall usability of the app.

This is an essential point. A ball machine can be excellent for beginners or recreational players but still be insufficient for competitive players. I therefore want to see whether it can meet the needs of an advanced player, with balls that are fast, heavy, varied, and consistent enough.

This is another aspect I find particularly interesting: the machine offers drills and training programs designed for seven different playing levels.

It starts at beginner level, around NTRP 1.5, and then gradually increases in difficulty through the advanced levels, including a competitive level around NTRP 4.5, before going even further.

This makes the machine much more versatile than it might initially appear. It can work perfectly well for a beginner simply looking to learn and practice the fundamentals, an intermediate player who wants to improve through structured drills, but also for an advanced player looking for more pace, speed, and intensity.

And considering the amount of power this machine can generate, it clearly has enough performance to challenge already very strong players. This was a really pleasant surprise: the TERO covers an impressively wide range of playing levels.

7. Portability, Battery Life, and Everyday Use

I’ll also test the practical side of the machine: how heavy it feels in real-world use, wheels and transportation, setup, noise level, battery life, charging, ball loading, possible ball jams, and how easy it is to store.

For now, I see the Lumistar TERO as a very promising machine, but ultimately it needs to prove itself on the court.

The real question will be: does the AI provide a genuine improvement over a good traditional programmable ball machine?

• Build quality: my first impression was honestly very positive. Almost the entire structure of the machine is made of metal, including the housings around the cameras. This immediately gives it a real sense of strength and durability. It is clear that the AceMate engineers wanted to design a robot capable of withstanding regular use on the tennis court. 💪🤖
• Dimensions and weight: in the photos and videos, the AceMate S10 looked very large to me, but it is actually quite easy to transport. Once fully assembled on the court, it stands approximately 1.80 m tall. 🥅 It can catch the balls too!

I almost forgot to mention one of the most original features of the AceMate S10: thanks to its large net, it can catch some of the balls you hit back. The machine analyzes their trajectories, moves toward them and tries to position itself in order to receive them. 🤖🎾

Let us be honest: it does not catch every ball. When a shot is hit a little harder, the ball may pass the machine, rebound off the metal structure or bounce back out of the net. Nevertheless, it still manages to collect a reasonable number of balls, which means there are fewer to pick up at the end of the session.

Personally, this is not the feature that interests me the most, but it is undeniably innovative, entertaining and sometimes quite impressive. The robot can genuinely accelerate as it tries to catch a ball! 💨

✅ Conclusion: a truly unique machine

I had trouble updating my ACEMATE Tennis Robot S10 because it was still running firmware version 1.2.2.

I tried using an iPhone, an Android phone, and a Chromebook tablet, but none of these devices could detect the ACEMATE hotspot or Wi-Fi network. As a result, I could not connect to the robot or install the firmware update.

It seems that, with older firmware versions, the robot may have difficulty determining its location or confirming the selected country or region. In my case, I was in France, but the robot apparently could not identify the region correctly, so it would not create the hotspot required for the update.

 The solution was surprisingly simple, although a little unusual:

I took the robot into town and placed it near an apartment building where many Wi-Fi networks were available. I then repeated the connection and update procedure.

Once the ACEMATE detected several nearby Wi-Fi networks, it seemed to recognise that it was in France, or at least in the country selected in the app. The ACEMATE hotspot then appeared normally, and I was finally able to connect to it and complete the firmware update.

So, if your ACEMATE hotspot does not appear, try moving the robot to an area where many Wi-Fi networks are visible, such as near apartment buildings, offices, or a busy residential area. Then restart the robot and repeat the hotspot connection procedure.

This may be particularly useful for ACEMATE robots running firmware versions older than approximately 1.3.7.

Honestly, even though it has not been released yet, I can already talk about it without taking too many risks: the Pongbot Aura will most likely be a very good ball machine.

Why am I saying this? There are several pretty clear signs.

Quick question about tennis shoes.

Do expensive models really make a noticeable difference, or are we mostly paying for the brand name?

I’m currently hesitating between mid-range and top-tier shoes, and I’m not sure if the price jump is actually justified.

I once played a guy who bounced the ball like 20 times before every single serve… no joke. By the second set, it was driving me crazy 😅

I get that everyone has routines, but some are just next level.

That comeback from Daniil Medvedev was honestly crazy to watch.

He looked completely out of the match at one point, struggling with timing and rhythm, and somehow still managed to turn it around. That’s something you see quite often with him — he just finds a way to stay in it.

Medvedev has been involved in another intense match last week, once again showing his resilience and his ability to frustrate opponents with his very unique playing style.

His game is so different from most top players, flat shots, deep positioning, weird angles, and incredible defense.

So I’m curious… do you think his style is underrated and super effective, or just annoying to watch compared to more classic players?

Why is it so hard to find consistent hitting partners?

I feel like people either cancel last minute, disappear after a couple of sessions, or only want to play matches. Don’t get me wrong, matches are great. But sometimes I just want solid practice rallying, drills, working on consistency.

It’s frustrating because having regular hitting sessions would help improve way more than random matches here and there.
